What is
Nebulisation?

Nebulisation is a respiratory management technique in which tiny spherical droplets of aerosolised medication are generated and inhaled by the patient.

Why use a Nebuliser?

A nebuliser device enables the horse owner to easily administer care to their horses airways and lungs. The device incorporates a mask that fits on the nose and a technological means of generating a fine mist.

Old style technologies are based on a compressor which plug into the mains supply. Newer technologies are ultrasonic devices, while the most up-to-date devices (e.g. Flexineb E2) incorporate a vibrating piezo component. Each of these technologies can generate the fine mist which ensures the mist goes directly into the airways and ultimately the lungs.

Nebulisers:

Allow the management of breathing problems diagnosed by professional veterinarians.

Deliver natural therapies such as saline and eucalyptus in a very efficient way, ensuring your horses airways are optimally conditioned at all times for good breathing.

Direct delivery to the lungs means quickest possible recovery and return to competition.

Save on the cost of drugs compared to other management methods; for example, only approximately 20% of an IV procedure required.

What is
Nebulisation

Nortev's Flexineb E2 Equine Nebuliser is unique in that it can be supplied with different types of medication (med) cups depending on the application and drug or liquid nebulised. Some medications or solutions such as Antibiotics and essential oils are alot thicker (more viscous) than other liquids.

These liquids can alter the speed of nebulisation considerably; however Flexineb E2 can counter this problem by using different speed med cups.

Please see the Medication Guide for details.

Grey Coded

Med Cups are recommended for use with Antibiotics like Gentamicin and Amikacin, Bronchodilators like Clenbuterol and Corticosteroids like Dexamethasone. These are our standard cups.

Green Coded

Med Cups are recommended for use with difficult to nebulise Antibiotics such as Cobactan®, Excenel® and R-Nystatine and Natural Therapies such as Balsamic Air. These cups are our faster delivery cups, suitable for thicker solutions.

Blue Coded

Med Cups are recommended for use with Nebulin. They provide a slower delivery than our standard, grey cup with excellent quality aerosol.

To get an aerosolised drug into the lower airways where it is required to manage the associated respiratory problems, the size of the particles being produced is very important. These particles must be in the range of 1-5 microns (10^-6) in diameter to be deposited deep into the lower airways (e.g. the lungs).
